Senior / Principal Hardware Engineer ( High-Speed, PCB, Schematic) – £65k/£55 per hour (Outside IR35) – Edinburgh

The Senior / Principal Hardware Engineer ( High-Speed, PCB, Schematic) will be responsible for design, commissioning and test of complex electronics hardware for Electro-optic systems

Your focus will be:

• Ability to analyse system requirements and derive detailed hardware requirements
• Creating electronics system architectures
• General hardware design including FPGA’s or microprocessors, power management circuitry (i.e. point of load DC/DC converters, filtering, monitoring, protection circuits, etc) and high-speed serial data & video interfaces (e.g. USB 3.0, 10Gig ethernet, SDI, HDMI, DisplayPort).
• Familiarity with Open VPX backplane/interconnect hardware
• Experience of high-speed digital interfacing and performing signal integrity analysis
• Analogue design for electro-optics applications, e.g. sensors, lasers, etc (desirable)
• Schematic capture using Mentor Xpedition / DxDesigner or equivalent tools
• Experience of overseeing PCB layout/working with PCB layout engineers
• Knowledge of EMC best practice, especially for MIL spec / airborne applications

• Relevant experience in the Aerospace/ Defence industry or on other complex/ high-reliability systems
• Previous experience of designing electronics for electro-optics systems/products
• Experience of supervising other hardware engineers, planning and managing work for yourself and a small team

Remuneration:

Permanent:

• Salary £35,000 – £65,000 (depending on Candidate Experience) + Benefits
• UK citizenship is mandatory to be able to clear the background checks and obtain SC clearance
• Current valid SC clearance would be an advantage

• £35 – £55 per hour (Outside IR35)
