Lead Software Engineer / Head of Software – £72k+Equity – London

My agricultural client is looking for a Lead Software Engineer / Head of Software to join their exciting start-up who are working on cutting edge technology which tackles greenhouse gas emissions.

Due to the success of the company, they are looking to expand the team considerably in 2021/22 and this Lead Software Engineer / Head of Software will be the person responsible for:

• Managing and coaching a team of software engineers and machine learning engineers.
• Reviewing and implementing software development methodologies to meet deadlines for launch.
• Coordinating and executing software related activities ahead of planned launch of my client’s app and software in Q2 2022.
• Working with the project manager and head of product development on setting goals for the team.
• Liaising with third party consultancies and development partners.
• Leading and contributing code to the current and future projects.
• Identifying opportunities for adoption of new technologies and improving existing tools.
• Optimising data storage and warehousing to meet cost criteria at scale.

The main skills the Lead Software Engineer / Head of Software will needed:

• 10+ years’ experience with designing and developing scalable systems.
• 10+ years’ experience of implementing complex distributed software including interfaces with hardware devices.
• Excellent understanding of different protocols for M2M communication. (mqtt, web-socket).
• Expert command of Multi Cloud deployments with good understanding of the tradeoffs (AWS/Google Cloud/Azure, etc.).
• Excellent command over C++, Node JS, Javascript, and Java.
• Knowledge of React and other cross platform mobile development technologies (React Native, Flutter).
• Experience with sql and Nosql databases – Mysql, Cassandra and ElasticSearch.
• Experience of designing/implementing machine learning systems for low bandwidth/compute/memory devices would be extremely desirable.
• Previous experience of leading and scaling decent sized software teams.
• Scrum and developing through BDD/TDD, using associated tools for testing and continuous integration & deployment.
• Experience working in product development teams a strong plus.
• Experience working in start-up environment, agri-tech or IoT company a plus.

The role offers flexible working on avg 1-2 days a week at home – when creating your design, you can do this from home but when you need to be working on the product/hardware itself this work will naturally need to be in the office.
