Digital Design Engineer (Wireless, DSP, FPGA) – £65k – Cambridge

My client is a growing company based on the outskirts of Cambridge, serving customers worldwide. They specialise in developing and manufacturing innovative solutions for cellular and bespoke communication markets.

Their products include 5G NR, LTE, UMTS and GSM base stations using their own hardware platforms and physical layers. They also undertake contract design and development projects based on their extensive cellular protocol knowledge and IP.

My client is looking for a Digital Design Engineer (Wireless, DSP, FPGA) with Experience writing Verilog/VHDL for Implementing Signal Processing, with solid Digital Signal Theory for FPGA’s to work on there large 5G Base station project which you will be part of a team writing which will involve writing 5G Protocols

Digital Design Engineer (Wireless, DSP, FPGA) Day-to-day activities include:

• Physical layer RTL design using Verilog 2001/VHDL for Xilinx/AMD 7-series and UltraScale+ FPGAs including the implementation of new designs, extending existing RTL,
• Analysing technical requirements for new/modified products and contributing to the creation of new project plans,
• Dealing with support issues related to existing products, including liaising with colleagues to find solutions in a timely manner.

Digital Design Engineer (Wireless, DSP, FPGA) Essential Skills:

• FPGA Digital Design
• Verilog (2001) or VHDL
• C or C++ coding for embedded systems,
• MATLAB
• Algorithm Design
• Xilinx
• Digital Signal Processing (DSP) / Visual Processing

Digital Design Engineer (Wireless, DSP, FPGA) Desirable: (Not Essential)

• 3GPP 5G NR or 4G LTE physical layer RTL design,
• Xilinx RFSoc
• Familiarity with vector signal generators and analysers e.g. R&S SMW, FSV/FSW
• Experience of DPD (Digital Pre-Distortion) Concept
• Experience of Crest Factor Reduction (CFR)  – LTE/LTE-Advanced, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA, WiMAX, CDMA2000, MC-GSM (including frequency hopping)
• Experience mentoring and supporting other, more junior, staff

Additionally, knowledge of some of the following areas would be beneficial: (Not Essential)

• Systems engineering,
• Project leadership, including estimating resource requirements and project planning,
• Experience supporting customers,
• Continuous integration test systems such as TeamCity, Jenkins etc, including the creation of
  test cases
