Antenna / RF Design Engineer – £50k – Swindon or Chelmsford

My client is a leader in advanced millimetre wave technology. They operate in the communications, satellite, aerospace, and defence markets with innovative monolithic microwave integrated circuits (mimics), packaged modules, sub-systems, and complete high-definition radars and satellite transceivers.

They are looking to recruit an Antenna / RF Design Engineer to work for there Innovative Space-focused business based near Swindon or Chelmsford. You will be responsible for designing and developing RF and microwave antennas which will be used in various New Space applications.

Antenna / RF Design Engineer – Responsibilities

• Design and develop RF and microwave antennas which will be used in Space
• To perform RF EM simulations using the latest techniques and tools such as HFSS, CST or ADS to ensure the designs meet the required specifications.
• Work closely with our hardware and systems test engineers to ensure good integration of designs, including PCB layout and antenna modules.
• Create and maintain accurate documentation on product development, design specifications, test procedures and test results.
• Support both internal and external customers with the design of PCB filters, matching networks, baluns etc.
• Ensure customer requirements can be met, or advise of alternative methods to meet volume and environmental compliance.
• Provide technical advice and assistance in pursuance of existing and new business, particularly in the fields of Antenna Design Capabilities, RF & Microwave Engineering and ensure the effectiveness and competitiveness of the proposed technical solutions
• Diagnose Antenna issues using various methods; e.g. visual inspection, data analysis in design
• Design, simulation & layout using HFSS or CST

Antenna / RF Design Engineer – Essential Skills

• RF/Microwave Antenna Design (Narrowband and Wideband)
• RF/Microwave Antenna Array Design
• Experience with Antenna test and trials in an anechoic chamber
• Manufacturing techniques, capabilities and constraints
• Use of vector network analysers and other test equipment
• Assessment of installed RCS performance of an Antenna
• Awareness of meta-material technologies
• Appreciation of mechanical design & module packaging
• Appreciation of mixed-signal board techniques
• Appreciation of active Microwave, RF and Analogue Design
• Clear understanding of engineering tools, processes and procedures
• Be conversant with RF/Microwave design tools including HFSS and MATLAB
• Process complex array data using MATLAB
• Take early prototype designs into serial production
• Be able to write high quality test requirements and test reports
• Generate plan of activities and manage own work
• Consistent ability to deliver required output within agreed timescales
• Be able to work of your own initiative whilst being a team player

• CST/ADS/FEKO Experience
