Senior Principal GPU (Graphics) Architect – £130k – £180k – Cambridge

My Client, a pioneering force in the semiconductor industry, is seeking a Senior Principal GPU (Graphics) Architect, We are looking for passionate Graphics GPU architects who are committed to efficiency and innovation. You will work with a dedicated team to understand industry trends, communicate with stakeholders, and develop detailed architectural feature specifications. Your role will involve deep analysis to meet power, performance, area, and bandwidth requirements, as well as collaboration with our research, modeling, and product teams to advance our technology roadmap.

Senior Principal GPU Architect Key Responsibilities:

  • Architecture Development: Define and deliver detailed architectural feature specifications for next-gen GPUs.
  • Industry Insight: Stay abreast of industry trends and their impact on GPU design.
  • Collaboration: Work with stakeholders to gather new ideas and requirements.
  • Technical Analysis: Perform in-depth analysis to meet PPA and bandwidth targets.
  • Innovation: Collaborate with the research group to map novel algorithms to efficient implementations.
  • Roadmap Development: Contribute to defining a forward-looking technology roadmap with the product team.
  • Implementation Support: Assist the implementation team through design and verification phases.
  • Performance Validation: Work with the performance team to review data and validate completed implementations.
  • Engineering Reviews: Participate in reviews and recommend improvements.
  • Influence and Innovation: Influence our long-term technology roadmap and advance our innovations.
  • External Collaboration: Liaise with key customers and industry standards bodies as needed.
  • Intellectual Property: Patent your inventions.

The main technical skills needed for the Senior Principal GPU Architect role are:

  • Experience: Background in GPU architecture or similar complex systems.
  • Understanding of modern 3D graphics and compute APIs (e.g., Vulkan, D3D12, OpenCL).
  • Familiarity with digital ASIC design methodologies and constraints.
  • Ability to plan, estimate, and track your own work.
  • Experience driving architecture exploration activities.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate technical issues and justify decisions to various audiences.

The highly desirable skills needed for the Senior Principal GPU Architect role are:

  • Strong maths and algorithm skills
  • Experience in digital video
  • Micro-architecture specification writing
  • Performance analysis using hardware waves
  • Driver and compiler performance analysis
  • Understanding of functional safety standards like ISO26262
