Senior RF Engineer (High Power,  PCB, Design, EMC) – £55k – Bath.

My client is looking for an Senior RF Engineer (High Power PCB) to lead and execute the design of RF power circuits and systems on concept and feasibility projects.

Your focus will be:

  • RF circuit and PA design, 100kHz to 1000MHz region
  • Device and component knowledge
  • Circuit layout for high-power 300W+
  • RF power magnetics, theory and practice
  • RF materials
  • DC supply and EMC
  • Mixed signal interfacing and control at RF frequencies
  • Control circuitry, signal conditioning and interface
  • Design for and use of automated testing systems

The Key tasks for the Senior RF Engineer (High Power,  PCB, Design, EMC) role are:

  • Become fully immersed in the design of distributed, embedded RF hardware modules
  • To design, realise and test high-power RF circuitry, with priorities in safety, power stability and efficiency. Design to industry best-practice.
  • RF system analysis and design towards diverse requirements in mixed-signal chains with an appreciation of end-to-end impairments and limitations
  • Schematic capture, high power PCB design (Altium preferred)
  • Ensure that designs promote testability, meet performance demands, are extensible and are robust.
  • Collaborate with clinical, software, hardware and instrument teams
  • Utilise simulation tools such as LTSpice, ADS and Matlab to meet a design requirement and use as a basis for circuit validation and verification.
  • Apply excellent test and debugging skills using VNA, spectrum analysers, power meters and oscilloscopes

Main skills and experience needed:

  • Experience in designing and implementing high-power RF circuitry in diverse fields of use.
  • Experience with Low Frequency electronics
  • Ability to seek efficient, repeatable, manufacturable solutions and foresee potential difficulties before committing to product.
  • A high proficiency in soldering, prototype construction, mechanical and thermal aspects.
  • Experience of IP protection.
  • Proficient and enthusiastic about simulation and knowledge of limitations in application to with real world systems

Main skills and experience needed:

  • Experience of microcontrollers and programming in C, VBA or Python would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of command and control/ATE protocols such as SCPI, Ethernet, Serial, SPI would be advantageous.
  • Experience of medical equipment safety and quality standards (IEC-60601/ISO-13485) would be beneficial.

Salary:

  • Salary £50,000 – £55,000 (depending on Candidate Experience) + Benefits
