Principal Verification Engineer (Embedded / RTOS / Safety-Critical) – Bristol (Hybrid) – Up to £75,000 + benefits

My client’s engineering team is looking to add a Principal Verification Engineer to support the development of safety-critical embedded systems across automotive and medical applications.

This role is focused on strengthening verification capability within a SAFERTOS / RTOS environment, with a clear objective of developing the successful candidate into a Team Leadership position within 12 months.

You will operate at the intersection of embedded software, real-time systems, and functional safety, working closely with engineering teams to ensure robust, compliant, and high-quality system delivery.

Principal Verification Engineer – Role & Responsibilities:

  • Lead verification and validation activities across embedded / RTOS-based systems
  • Work within a SAFERTOS environment, ensuring system robustness and reliability
  • Support development aligned to functional safety standards including ISO 26262 and IEC 61508
  • Collaborate with software, systems, and architecture teams to ensure full system integrity
  • Contribute to test strategy, coverage, and verification methodologies
  • Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
  • Drive quality, compliance, and best practice in safety-critical software development
  • Support progression into a future Team Leadership role

Principal Verification Engineer – Essential Skills:

  • Strong experience in embedded software / systems engineering (C / RTOS)
  • Background in verification, validation, or testing of complex systems
  • Experience working within safety-critical environments (automotive or medical preferred)
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262 and/or IEC 61508
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or providing technical leadership to engineers
  • Strong understanding of real-time systems and embedded architectures
  • Ability to work across cross-functional engineering teams
  • Clear communication skills, both technical and non-technical

What this isn’t:

  • Not a pure design / RTL development role
  • Not a purely theoretical or research-led position
  • Not a people management role from day one — leadership is a structured progression
  • Not an aerospace / DO-178 focused environment

Why This Role

  • Clear and defined pathway into Team Leadership within ~12 months
  • Opportunity to work on high-integrity, safety-critical systems
  • Strong engineering culture with real ownership and impact
  • Exposure across automotive and medical domains
  • Stable environment with long-term product focus

Salary and Package:

  • Up to £75,000 base salary
  • 5% Bonus (company & performance related)
  • Pension
  • Private medical
  • Life assurance
  • Income protection
  • Flexible / hybrid working (3 Days a week on-site)

My client can offer a 3-stage process consisting of a 1st stage Video Call , 2nd Stage Video Call and a 3rd Stage on-site Interview (meet the team and site tour). This process can be completed within 2-3 weeks (based on availability)
