Principal GPU Architect / Graphics Architect – £120,000 – £150,000 + Bonus + Benefits -Globally Available

The Opportunity

The people capable of bridging the gap between graphics software requirements and efficient silicon implementations are exceptionally rare.

We’re supporting one of the world’s leading graphics IP organisations in the search for a Principal GPU Architect / Graphics Architect to help shape the future direction of advanced graphics technologies deployed across billions of devices worldwide.

This is not a traditional architecture role. Success requires a unique blend of hardware expertise, graphics domain knowledge, and an appreciation of how modern graphics APIs influence architectural decisions.

If your experience sits purely in software or purely in hardware, this probably isn’t the right opportunity. If you’ve spent your career shaping the future of 3D graphics architectures and understand the trade-offs required to deliver world-class graphics IP, we’d love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

As a Principal GPU Architect / Graphics Architect, you will play a key role in defining the roadmap for future generations of graphics technology.

Working across multidisciplinary teams, you will influence architectural decisions from early concept through to implementation, balancing performance, power and silicon area constraints whilst ensuring the resulting solutions continue to meet the demands of evolving graphics workloads.

You’ll operate at the intersection of hardware and software — translating complex graphics requirements into elegant, efficient architectural solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and influence the architecture of future graphics technologies.
  • Evaluate emerging graphics trends and their impact on future products.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, software and algorithm teams.
  • Drive discussions around architectural trade-offs involving performance, power and area efficiency.
  • Influence long-term technology roadmaps and feature development strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership within a highly specialised engineering environment.
  • Mentor and support other engineers and architects within the organisation.
  • Contribute to solving some of the industry’s most complex graphics challenges.

Essential Skills & Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, you should demonstrate experience across both graphics hardware and software domains.

You will likely possess:

  • Significant experience within GPU or graphics architecture environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern 3D graphics pipelines and rendering concepts.
  • Experience defining and influencing hardware architectural decisions.
  • Knowledge of graphics APIs such as Vulkan, DirectX and/or OpenGL.
  • Appreciation of how software requirements translate into efficient silicon implementations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • A track record of solving complex technical problems within graphics-focused organisations.
  • Experience providing technical leadership and influencing key stakeholders.

What This Role Isn’t

This role is unlikely to be suitable if your experience is predominantly focused on:

  • General SoC Architecture.
  • CPU Architecture.
  • AI Accelerator Architecture.
  • Graphics software development without meaningful hardware exposure.
  • Hardware engineering outside of 3D graphics environments.
  • Compute-focused GPU roles without significant graphics expertise.

This search specifically requires candidates with experience spanning both hardware architecture and genuine 3D graphics domains.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Opportunities of this nature rarely come to market.

You’ll join an organisation where graphics remains central to its identity and future direction, working alongside some of the industry’s most experienced engineers and architects.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence products used globally whilst tackling the sort of technical challenges that define careers.

This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the future of graphics technology within an environment that values deep technical expertise, innovation and long-term thinking.

Package & Benefits

  • Base Salary: £120,000 – £150,000
  • 30% annual bonus opportunity
  • Total compensation: £156,000 – £195,000
  • Flexible / remote working model
  • Pension scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Life assurance
  • Income protection
  • Relocation Support available (If required)
  • Visa Sponsorship Available (If required)
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities
  • The opportunity to work alongside recognised experts within the graphics industry
  • Significant influence over future generations of graphics technologies

Application Process

My client offers a streamlined 3-stage interview process:

  • Stage 1: Technical Screening (45 minutes)
  • Stage 2: Technical Panel Interview (2 hours 10 minutes)
  • Stage 3: HR / Final Discussion

The process can typically be completed within 2-4 weeks, depending on candidate availability.
